Apple Lapbook

Apple Lapbook

In the Fall of 2005, we made our first lapbook. We did it on apples. It was fun and the kids really enjoyed it. MaryEllen was 5 and Donnie was 4, so there isn't much writing. The writing there was, MaryEllen did or I did. Donnie joined in on the story times and coloring.

The Cover. I found this picture on the internet and printed it. I then cut it in half and taped it to the front. We did not and still do not have laminating material, so I use packing tape for durability. Maybe in the future I can purchase laminating material.

Apple Lapbook Pocket Folder

Using the middle flap, I made it into a folder where I put the kids work that pertained to apples, but was not put in the lapbook. Some stuff being counting apples, and coloring pages of Johnny Appleseed.

Activities

I used the lesson plans found at this site. We made the Johnny Appleseed paper bag puppet and did the simple math. We also did the taste test (see below). You can find the tree with flaps there too. I did not do all that is there, but like anything, adapted it to fit what we want to do.

I also added things from Enchanted Learning and Child Care Land.

This lapbook was made with printables from various websites.

Apple Tasting and Graphing

I bought five different types of apples and we did a taste test. We then asked Dad, the kids' older sisters, Grandpa and their Aunts to see what their favorite apples were. We recorded them above and then graphed them. The apples we tried were Fuji, Gala, Red Delicious, Granny Smith and McIntosh. The kids really enjoyed this.

Variety of Apples

I added this. I found pictures of apples and facts about each one and made cards.

Mapping

We mapped Johnny's journey by coloring the states he visited. We also recorded them in an apple shape book

Sequencing

I also added sequencing cards on an apple tree through the seasons and the apple life cycle.

Apple Facts

Here are some simple apple facts. You are welcome to revise or make your own list. Maybe older kids could write them out.
